Trees, Again

I admit to having a lot of photographic obsessions, but my number one has to be trees. They are my favorite subject matter and I never seem to tire of trying to find new ways to depict them. I just submitted three images to Shutterbug magazine for their most recent Picture This assignment – Trees, Woods and Forests. It’s not my first time submitting images to them and I’ve always been rejected.

But this assignment was too perfect for me and one can always hope. Trees are a hugely popular subject matter, so the magazine is requesting images that “stand head and shoulders above the others.” No cliches need apply. I searched my archives for some truly unique tree compositions. One, like these three from the Kelby Photo Walk, is abstract and out-of-focus.

The other two are tree reflections.  One is a reflection of trees in a river that I photographed during our train ride in Canada and the other is a reflection of trees in a puddle on a path near Lake Cornelia.I’ve looked at the other submissions and, while many of them are beautiful, I don’t think they’re really that unique. So I’m hoping I might have a shot. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
