Lily, Lily, Lily

I’ve been pretty negligent about getting out in the yard and taking photos lately, but then I’ve been pretty negligent about doing any work in the yard either. I’m sort of avoiding looking at anything too closely. I just see the signs of neglect everywhere. But I did manage to get out a few weeks ago and make some images of my daylilies. These dark red ones start blooming right as the yellow ones fade out. They are my favorites.

I am frequently frustrated when photographing lilies, because I never feel like I get enough in focus. So this time I just slapped on the Lensbaby and didn’t really try to get much of anything in focus. Voila – that worked. At least for me. These first two images are essentially identical, except for the (limited) plane of focus. The first one is at the front and the second one is in the middle. Not that anything is really sharp.

The third image actually does have an area of sharp focus. It’s probably just pure luck that I managed to hit that. But I’ll take it. The summer is almost over and there won’t be much more blooming in the garden. Then we’ll hit the dead zone until the snow starts falling. Which, given the streak of unseasonably cool weather we’ve been having, may be sooner than you’d think. I can’t wait.
