On to Calhoun

I’ll probably revisit some of my Lake Harriet images in the near future, but for now I’ve decided to move on to my first photo walk around Lake Calhoun.

I’ll give you one guess as to the lens I decided to bring for the walk. The image on the left should pretty much make it a dead giveaway. You got it – the Lensbaby Velvet 56. Today’s images have what I would consider to be pretty much perfect subject matter for this lens.

These first two images are probably too similar to include both, but I just couldn’t decide which one to cut. The vertical composition seems to fit the subject matter better, but I really like the square one because it shows a little bit more of the top of the seed head. This single stalk in the front with shadowy echoes behind is just made for the Lensbaby. Just imagine what it’s going to be like when I have FLOWERS to photograph.

This last image includes a bigger chorus in the background. Does that make it too busy? I don’t think so, although I am rethinking my decision not to clone out the one near the bottom. I love the trio, but that little guy by himself at the bottom is a bit distracting, especially since none of the stem is visible. But hey, it’s about progress, not perfection.
