Snow Tease

Last Wednesday I woke up to a tiny bit of snow. When I say tiny, I mean less than half an inch. Given the current air temperature, I knew this frosty little gift would quickly disappear.

I grabbed my camera with my 150mm macro lens and went outside, seeking photographic sustenance. I started with some snow covered oak leaves in my perennial garden next to the driveway.

I was obsessed with capturing the perfect little snow crystals that had gathered on the leaves. I probably spent about twenty minutes just photographing dead plants covered with snow in my yard. I only went back inside because I started to lose feeling in my fingers. I really need to get better winter photography gloves. For next year, obviously.

I have some really good winter boots, so my feet aren’t a problem, but the gloves are a lot trickier. I’ve tried wearing liners under mittens and taking the mittens off to shoot (too clumsy). I’ve also tried fingerless mitten/gloves that have a fold back top (not warm enough). I have Raynaud’s Syndrome, so keeping my hands warm is a high priority. I need functioning fingers to operate the camera.
